Since my last post, people are probably wondering what I've been doing. I haven't been as active in the blog-o-verse as I would like to be, but I have been busy musically. I have been working on building a set list for the shows I have coming up in June. The nice thing about those set lists is that they can have the same songs since I'm almost guaranteed to have different people attending. While it would be extremely flattering and really boost my ego, I have serious doubts about the people that show up in Colorado finding their way out to San Antonio a couple weeks later. All are welcome, but I am realistic.
So I've been building a set list that needs to span roughly four hours. I plan on doing a mix of 80's country up through present day. I do have a couple southern rock and classic rock songs that I'm going to mix in, but for the most part my sound is country. I am planning to start things off with an 80/20 ratio for cover to original songs. As much as my ego would like to believe, I know that most people that first hear me are going to want to hear songs that they are already familiar with.
Along with preparing for the shows during June and any other shows that find their way into my schedule, I have been preparing for tonight's small group event that we are hosting at our home. Our church in San Antonio, Living Faith Church, focuses on the idea of small groups to foster a stronger fellowship between members and help the congregation find a way to plug in and for those that are called, lead. The small group that we are hosting, called Amplified, is focused on praise and worship. Music is not just about playing a pretty song or belting out your favorites at the top of your lungs. Praise and worship is about opening your heart to God and expressing that love with harmonies and melodies created by the instruments, both within and outside the body. One of my favorite verses, being a guitar player myself, is Psalms 150:4 (AMP) Praise Him with the tambourine and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flute. For any other worship leaders out there, I would love to hear what it is that drives your worship and song selection from week to week.
In addition to preparing for the upcoming shows and small group session, I've continued to co-lead the worship team on Sunday mornings and I recorded a new video of one of my original songs that will be releasing on YouTube Monday at 3pm CST. The video will be a standard live recording. If anyone has wondered about the sound and recording tools I've been using, I play my Takamine EG-332C through a Fishman Loudbox Mini PRO-LBX-500. I use a V-Tech VT-1030 microphone that could definitely use an upgrade, but it gets the job done. The video itself is recorded and edited through a Galaxy Note 9 with stock apps. The set up leaves room to be improved, but it gets the job done for now.
As I continue this adventure, I will continue to try new ways of pushing out my music. I welcome any and all comments as long as they are family friendly. If you have suggestions or requests, please feel free to share them with me. Please take the time to visit my YouTube channel www.youtube.com/chuckwimer and watch/listen to some of the videos.
